"The difficulty of literature is not to write, but to write what you mean; not to affect your reader, but to affect him precisely as you wish." -- Robert Louis Stevenson
I think, “Literature is a branch of knowledge”. Whether graphically, acoustically, electronically or otherwise, it uses language artistically to understand, interpret and appreciate life intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually so as, first, to reflect on and experience it individually and interiorly as art. Secondly, for the courageous only, Literature also actively celebrates life by living it, questioning it and changing it if and when necessary, like we do a hot, delicious ball of ugly that becomes unbearably unfriendly to swallow even with closed eyes. In order to enjoy it, Literature can be simplified, categorized and read or performed in the forms one likes best. These common forms include all types of novels, all kinds of drama and all classes of poetry. When the practitioners are active, Literature as art can also invent new forms to initiate new canons alongside the established traditions.
- Why is it important?
Through this definition, we come to know that why literature is important for us. Literature helps us understand and make sense of the world around us. Through literature, we explore the human condition and analyze how and why people think the way they think and feel the way they feel. Literature enables us to develop our minds analytically and promotes open minds. We see the world through the eyes of different writers from different cultures and in turn learn the ways to deal with things happening around us. Without literature, we lack insight and understanding of human nature. Everyone should, therefore, study literature.
